Community Resources
The Children’s Resource Center strives to be an information clearinghouse on child and family resources. Our phone calls provide not only parent referrals and provider support, but also information on what programs are available in the community and how to access that resource. We work closely with agencies and child/family programs in a collaborative effort to reach the Smart Start goal of every Catawba County child being healthy and ready to learn upon entry into kindergarten.
We coordinate closely with such programs as the Catawba County Parenting Network, the Early Childhood Support Team, Centro Latino, and the Catawba County Partnership for Children (Smart Start).
Parent’s Helpbook
The Catawba County Partnership for Children publishes each year a directory of services for families of young children in Catawba County. It provides an excellent summary of helping services for our area. If you are interested in receiving one of these handbooks, you may contact The Children’s Resource Center at (828) 328-8228.
Assistance for Area Businesses
Our services are available to area businesses to educate employees and directly connect parents with child care and other available community services. The Children’s Resource Center can provide a “Lunch and Learn” event at your business upon request. We are also available to consult with businesses regarding issues of absenteeism due to child care related problems. According to The Economic Impact of the Child Care Industry in North Carolina study of 2004, “unscheduled absences cost small businesses an average of $60,000 annually and large companies an average of $3.6 million. Nearly one-quarter of unscheduled absences are due to family issues, including child care needs.”
